Septic System Repairs:
Like everything, a septic system has a life span. Depending on the overall use, an older system can fail after anywhere from 18-30 years.
If you see signs of a septic failure, Call AJM right away, and Joe will come out to inspect the system, identify where the trouble is, and what repairs are needed to fix the system.
When calling a licensed installer for an inspection, one must make sure the installer is trustworthy. The fact is, part of your existing system may not be failing, and a trustworthy installer will tell you what pieces can be saved, and possibly save you thousands of dollars! Joe Martin of AJM Septic and Excavating is capable of saving you from potential stress and unnecessary loss of money.
Septic System repairs use the same state guidelines and regulations and are overseen by a state inspector. However, there is more leniency in state regulations for repairs to existing homes.
Repairs consist of the replacement of sections of an existing system (i.e.: the tank or fields, piping, or distribution boxes). This would also include replacement of the entire system as well as the tank, (of an existing dwelling) if needed.
There are a few factors that determine replacement of an entire system:
- Age – the system is old and outlived its useful life
- It was damaged in some way (i.e.: run over by heavy equipment, trucks, moving vans, delivery trucks, etc.)
- Or modification of the home and components of the septic need to be relocated
On smaller pieces of land, the original system is removed and the new system is installed in the original location, and in most cases, installed in new septic fill. However, if the owner has a large enough piece of suitable land, the new system can be installed in a different location.
How do you know if you have a failed system? Here are some signs to look out for:
- Backups into the house
- Sewage rising up and breaking out on the ground
- Odors during the wet times of the year, which indicates a high sewage level close to the ground
- More lush/green areas of the lawn, which indicate that sewage may be rising to the surface
Whether it is a new installation or a repair, the work must be done by a licensed installer in the state of Connecticut that can submit a copy of their license as well as a certificate of insurance to you prior to any work being done. Fortunately for you, Joe Martin of AJM Septic and Excavating is a licensed installer, and can promptly take care of all your septic system issues.
